Construction Plans

Transparency

SK hynix ensures that it will provide residents with updates on the construction schedule, including key milestone dates. Any significant changes will be communicated in advance to ensure transparent and consistent engagement with the community.

Licenses and Permits

SK hynix has been operating in Korea, which imposes some of the world’s most stringent safety standards, for more than 40 years, and has been complying with these regulations. It is fully committed to and confident in meeting or exceeding all applicable laws, regulations, and ordinances in the United States.

Construction Permits: The Mass Grading Permit (ILP-1) has been formally approved by both the City and County authorities on September 3, 2025. The Civil Work Permit (ILP-2) is scheduled for submission to the relevant authorities by the end of January 2026.

Environmental Permits: Ongoing coordination is underway with the Indiana Department of Environmental Management (IDEM) to address all applicable environmental permitting requirements.

To date, no material issues have been identified in coordination with the Authority Having Jurisdiction (AHJ)-the local regulatory body responsible for ensuring that buildings and structures comply with safety standards and meet all applicable laws and regulations. All engagements remain on track and in compliance with regulatory expectations.

Site Impact Control

Noise Control

  • SK hynix will adopt equipment with low-volume sounds, and vibration will be managed by applying low-vibration methods during construction.
  • The company will also build a noise barrier fence up to 2 meters high outside the site.
  • Working involving noise will be conducted mainly during daytime (from 7 a.m. through 7 p.m.)

Dust Control

  • A screen fence will be installed outside the site to suppress spread of scattering dust.
  • Dust suppression trucks will apply water to the surface of the roads at the site on a regular basis.
  • A dust-proof net will be installed to minimize generation of scattering dust from the earth.
  • SK hynix will also have street cleaning machines or install vehicle wheel washing system to keep the roads near the site clean.

Light Control

  • In accordance with the West Lafayette Zoning Ordinance, all lighting fixtures will be oriented to minimize light spill and glare onto adjacent properties. Cut-off type luminaires will be employed to mitigate light pollution.
  • The lighting plan prioritizes the prevention of light spill into surrounding areas by eliminating uplighting and installing luminaires at reduced mounting heights.
  • Low-reflective glazing or film will be incorporated into the curtain wall design to minimize potential light spill during operational hours.

Traffic Consideration

  • SK hynix has commissioned a comprehensive traffic study to assess the impacts of construction and operations on traffic flow. SK hynix will work closely with the City of West Lafayette, Tippecanoe County, and INDOT to develop a plan that ensures residents can travel near the site safely and efficiently.
