SK hynix established a SHE research center to proactively cope with national and international regulations, to develop professional technology about the SHE fields and to improve company-wide SHE service and quality with an aim to promote sustainable development and fulfill its social responsibilities.
Through this, the company has established healthy and safe business places and continuously conducted research on eco-friendly processes and products.

Response to Climate Changes
Calculated of the greenhouse gas emissions
SK hynix business places located in the nation were designated to manage industrial development on Sept. 30, 2010 according to the ‘Frame Work Act on Low Carbon, Green Growth’ (April 14, 2010) and ‘management guidelines on companies managing greenhouse gas and energy’ (Environment Ministry notification No. 2010-109), and since then have reported greenhouse gas emissions to the government based on published statements.
Correspond to Greenhouse Gas Emissions Trading System
SK hynix has continuously reduced greenhouse gas emissions through establishing a taskforce for reducing energy and greenhouse gas, developing and operating techniques to measure greenhouse gas reducing devices (scrubbers), expanding greenhouse gas reducing devices and introducing low electric power facilities.
Develop Techniques to Measure Greenhouse Gas Reducing Devices
SK hynix developed measurement techniques to exactly calculate emissions in cooperation with researchers at Korea Research Institute of Standards and Science by improving accuracy of greenhouse gas emission factors. Those techniques can be applied to the entire semiconductor industry using the measurement protocol of the U.S. Environment Protection Agency and are expected to obtain positive effects in regard to greenhouse gas reduction through effectively managing greenhouse gas reducing devices.

SK hynix introduced Eco-efficiency Indicator in 2008. This indicator is to measure and increase the environmental performance and product value at the same time. Until now, 2014, we have conducted 40 case studies achieving factor 5.13. Please see the eco-efficiency brochure for better understandings.
SK hynix factor h2 Result
SK hynix has established the factor h2 roadmap in order to enable us to develop more environmentally friendly product. The eco-efficiency portfolio is a matrix to indicate how a target product (year 2011) has been improved compated to a reference product (year 2008). The vector of eco-efficiency indicates extent of improve ment in both product value and environmental influence.
LCA(Life Cycle Assessment)
The LCA (Life Cycle Assessment) is about quantitatively evaluating environmental effects taking place in all processes of production.
SK hynix tries to figure out what materials and processes may seriously affect the environment through conducting the LCA of important products every year and executes research to improve related problems. Based on such results of LCA research, the company acquired the EDP (environmental declaration of products) Certification with regard to 20 nano-sized 4Gb DDR3 in 2013 for the first time in the semiconductor industry.
The EDP system, which was designed to quantitatively show environmental information on all processes, from producing to distributing, using and scrapping products, in order to raise the environmental efficiency of products, is certified by the Ministry of Environment.

The CEF labeling system is a third party labeling system operated by the Ministry of Environment and Korea Environmental Industry and Technology Institute to certify green-house gas emissions of products.
SK hynix has been acquiring the CEF Certification for its important products since 2009.
SK hynix acquired the CEF Certification with regard to 20 nano-sized 8Gb LPDDR3/ LPDDR4 in 2015.
In the case of 20 nano-sized 8Gb LPDDR4, in particular, the company reduced green-house gas emissions by about 32% compared to previously certified products through applying detailed and minute processes and optimizing energy efficiency.

Ecodesign is an approach to design of a product with special consideration for the environmental impacts of the product during its whole lifecycle
SK hynix established Eco-design Task Force in the late 2010 yr. The activities such as checklist, guideline and Measurement are under development in the field of Resource use, Energy Efficiency, Hazardous substances and recycling.
SK hynix is continuously making an efforts to develop and manufacture green product through Eco-design activites.
Concerned Persons Partnership
Cooperative Companies Green Partnership
SK hynix has taken part in a project for establishing green management systems for cooperative companies with ministries in order to cope with climate changes and to manage chemicals.
Such partnership has been pursued to reduce the carbon footprint of products through establishing greenhouse gas inventories and low carbon management systems of cooperative firms and to help cooperative firms prepare their own management systems to safely and properly handle chemical substances.
SK hynix is expected to become a company strengthening international competitiveness through win-win cooperation with participating firms and leading eco-friendly management.
Since SK hynix was inducted into the ‘CDP Hall of Fame’after being selected by CDP(Carbon Disclosure Project) Korean commission in 2013 for the first time as a Korean company, the firm has maintained its gold club seat for three years.
The CDP is as an index for assessing sustainability to examine the strategies of companies in relation to climate changes and achievement of emission reduction goals. SK hynix has made the utmost efforts to continuously reduce greenhouse gas and energy, to expand carbon labeling, to develop eco-friendly and high-energy efficiency products and to spread domestic and international awareness on climate changes.
